Phrases like "elite media" and "liberal media" dominate the
conversation when any middle American or conservative American begins
to discuss
the array of organizations that comprise our daily dose of information
about the world. In hist latest column titled Liberal Jihad, Bill
O'Reilly discusses the utter chaos that the media brings upon the
average American about the War on Terror through their biased
reporting. A war where we are the good guys and they are the bad guys
no longer exists in the detached world of the media; those days are
long gone. The media no longer works for the country, the media has
become it's own entity with its own objectives. It carries out the
means necessary to achieve the ends with as almost as much cruelty as
is in the heart of terrorist who walks into a crowded marketplace and
detonates a bomb taped around his waste.
What makes the media even more dangerous is that you have large group
with tremendous influence all pulling the same way. That way is
decidedly left-leaning. America has always had characters from all
across the spectrum. That's a part of being a melting pot. However,
ultimately speaking, the various lunatics out there have canceled each
other out leaving a nation of moderates.
Because of the news media, this is no longer the case. It's clearly no
longer about the profits, either. (If this were the case, every cable
news network would have been scrambling to copy Fox News a long time
ago.) The new determining factor in the media is the agenda which is
often that of its controlling individual or group. This change in the
ultimate goal for the media is the result of the revolution that has
taken the western world by an unwilling storm. Millions of westerners
are fed terms such as "civil liberties," "racial," "imperialism,"
and the left wing all-time favorite, "constitutionality." We're more
concerned about protecting our civil libraries in the library when we
checkout books than we are actually making sure we still are here and
have a library to go to and checkout books...or so we're told by the
media.
That's just the problem; we're told by the media what to do and
what to believe all cleverly disguised in the form of a report.
This brings along another characteristic of the media. Arrogance. They
know better than us. Just like Marx knew better than the common worker. Just like the radical left, they know what's best
for America and anyone who thinks otherwise is branded either a bigot
or sick. The level of arrogance with the media is simply astounding.
We start with a recent comment I heard made on, where else, a news
show. On this show, a media industry expert was discussing various
aspects of the media and how it reports. He made the comment that the
"media polices itself" and the hypocrisy meter went through the roof on
that one. We here from media elites about the role of the press as a
check and balance on the government here in America. Especially when it
comes to Republican presidencies, we continually here about issues of
trust. We cannot trust the government but we can trust the media is the
message.
The media has no check and balance besides itself. A grand total of
five organizations now control over 90% of mass media outlets in
America. This is dangerous my friends. That means only 5 CEO's are
ultimately responsible for what you hear on the news. Where's the check
and balance in that?
Finally, we come to the current war between Israel and Hezbollah. The
recent media coverage is a true testament to the arrogant media. We
begin with Hezbollah in Lebanon. There is one theme I have heard across
all the networks; that reporters are very quickly shown sites where
Israel supposedly killed "x" number of civilians in their attack.
Reporters are whisked around and shown blankets that cover the "dead"
killed in the attacks. Hezbollah has a very tight control on what gets
seen; yet the media will listen and report their figures all day long.
I've heard numerous body counts from the media for the "civilian"
Lebanese killed in the fighting. Putting aside that fact that we almost
never hear casualty reports from Hezbollah, we take word for word what
the Lebanese Prime Minister has to say about the death total. This is
the same Prime Minister who leads a government that obviously doesn't
have control of its southern territory. Where do you think he gets the
figures from? Common sense would say Hezbollah. What makes these
figures reliable? I have no idea; but the media reports them the same
way they reported the figure of 600 dead according to the Lebanese PM
well over a week ago. The total reported today was 575. I suppose 25 of
the original six hundred suddenly decided to come back to us from the
dead.
Another prime example of the media's arrogance in the rash of
kidnappings by terrorist organizations over the past five years. These
groups have become master manipulators of the media in there rush to
get the story. The media is clueless (or doesn't want to be clued in
for ideological reasons) as to their use in the plans of terrorists.
They display the videos and make the reports on the person or peopled
kidnapped and give an outlet to terrorists who want to make a case. It
is quite clear that had the media practiced what we've come to call
common sense and not shown the videos, the initial kidnappings would
never have been effective.
The lesson here is that the media is not just biased or liberal. It's
downright dangerous. The question for us conservatives is what do we do
about it? Do we sit back and talk about it like that annoying coworker
or do we jump into action?
